Environmental Policy
JHP Visuals is a narrative-led digital content agency with deep-rooted environmental values. We recognise that we are in a Climate and Nature Crisis, and have seen first-hand time and time again the impact the changing climate has on the spaces that we conduct our work. We are committed to monitoring and reducing our impact on the environment. We believe in honesty, transparency, and the power of storytelling to communicate the effects climate change has on Scotland and around the world.
We have identified that our biggest environmental impacts are project based, especially project travel, and we are tracking and minimising these where possible. This includes providing carbon reports to clients to make the projects more environmentally friendly and help them understand and reduce value chain (scope 3) emissions. We also recognise that we have a company impact, and are taking steps to reduce this including electricity and heating use.
Environmental issues are at the forefront of our operations, and there are many steps we are already taking to become a more sustainable business. We aim to promote our current practices and values, engage with audiences and clients and be a role model for other production companies.
We have recently hired a sustainability coordinator to oversee our sustainability plan. We will promote environmental awareness among our employees and encourage them to work in an environmentally responsible manner.
One of the key pillars of our business is to use our resources to share environmental stories to influence and engage audiences on environmental issues.
We aim to continually monitor and identify areas to improve our environmental performance and impact.

Projects
-
We measure the carbon impact of all the projects we work on and provide easily digestible carbon impact reports to clients

We provide suggestions to clients to reduce their impacts on projects and offer well researched offsetting options for emissions that cannot be minimised
-
We rent out kit when not in use
Giving Back and Supporting Grass Roots Causes:
-
We donate 1% of our total annual sales to grassroots environmental organisations through the 1% For The Planet Scheme
-
We donate at least one project annually to a Scottish grassroots environmental organisation
-
We offer at least three 50% subsidised projects annually to environmental charities or organisations
Procurement
-
We only make business purchases where essential, and will aim to buy second hand or refurbished items wherever we can
-
Where we do need to buy new, we aim to select products made from recycled materials- e.g. notebooks, workwear (recycled material, fair wear certified)
-
Physical assets such as technical kit are repaired internally for as long as possible
Waste
-
We communicate, invoice, do our banking and store documents electronically
-
On shoots, we use an iPad for documents rather than printed documents
-
We print only where 100% necessary
-
Stationary and scrap paper are re-used
-
We recycle cardboard, paper, plastic, cartons, and cans (mixed recycling) in the office
-
We are creating a specific digital waste policy
Travel
-
We strongly encourage all our employees to travel to the office by active travel and public transport
-
We are signed up to the cycle to work scheme
-
We will only use air travel as a last resort and will endeavour to minimise air miles at every opportunity
-
Project travel usually requires a vehicle to transport equipment to remote places; however, we will use public transport at every available opportunity
-
We will always car share to minimise vehicles at every available opportunity
Energy
-
We make sure lights, computers, and plugs are turned off when not in use
-
We don’t use heating unnecessarily
-
All lights in the office are LED
-
We will monitor our energy use and identify areas to reduce use
We have future plans to:
-
Look into options for making project travel more sustainable- for example, leasing an electric vehicle
-
Look into options for offsetting unavoidable emissions- for example, purchasing carbon removal credits from UNDO or Future Forest Company
-
Continue development of an internal digital asset management system that makes stock footage and assets available for future projects to minimise digital waste
