Plastic@Bay

Highlands and Islands Environment Foundation

Plastic@bay is a grassroots environmental project based on the Isle of Lewis working to remove ocean plastic from Scottish coastlines.

From extensive surveys and research they realised that a large percentage of Scotland’s ocean plastic originates from the fishing industry, particularly from rope cuttings created as part of the routine maintenance of shellfish creels and trawl nets.

In response, Plastic@Bay set up their cutting down project, which aims to cut down these issues at source by providing transportable cages installed on key commercial fishing harbours around the islands.

We created a film to highlight the project and supported its release with a distribution strategy.

This project was part of our 2023 1% for the planet pledge, provided to the Highlands and Islands Environment Foundation.
